UKRAINIAN WOMEN’S FUND, striving to assist CSOs, specifically, but not limited to women’s CSOs, to play an active role in the processes of democratization of society and to contribute to equality, justice and respect to human rights, announces grants competition for WOMEN’S civil society organizations of Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus
The competition’s goal is to strengthen the role of women’s non-governmental organizations of Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus in protecting rights and promoting political, economic and social rights of women.
Within the competitions projects will be supported by the following priorities:
1. Equal participation of women in decision-making and political life of the country
Strengthening gender balance in legislative and executive public bodies, as well as local governance bodies is of significant importance for democracy and social justice. That’s why it is important to eliminate barriers for active involvement of women 8in all spheres of social and private life by ensuring comprehensive and equal participation of women in the processes of decision-making in economic, cultural and political fields.
Projects to be supported should assist in promoting influence of female social activists, women public officials, women holding local governance offices and women-politicians, improve their competence and participation in decision-making, increase representation of women in legislative and executive bodies.
Activities within the project can be the following (but not limited to the list): campaigns on advocating and lobbying interests of women, informational campaigns aimed at voters, organizing discussion clubs and public events with involvement of representatives of different political parties.
2. Women’s economic empowerment and protection of women’s social rights
Gender equality should be realized in all main spheres of life, namely, in economic and social ones. But actually in these spheres, after political one, gender discrimination is the most visible. Decent economic standing and social protection of women are possible only on condition of consistent state gender policy.
Projects to be supported should be directed at elimination of discrimination against women at labor market, involvement of women in entrepreneurship, at equal social protection, at counteracting feminization of poverty.
The projects should be directed only at central bodies of legislative and executive power, local executive and local governance bodies.
Activities within the project can be the following (but not limited to the list): campaigns on advocating and lobbying interests of women, informational campaigns, educational programs, organizing discussion clubs and public events.
3. Raising awareness of gender equality in the general public
Forming stable public thought about the necessity of ensuring gender equality in all spheres of life: political, economic, social and everyday life is one of the main factors for achievement of such equality.
Projects to be supported should be directed at counteracting traditional gender stereotypes of mass consciousness, at informing women that they have human rights and should enjoy them, at visualizing cases of violating rights on the basis of gender, at studying experience of countries that achieved significant success in abiding by women's human rights.
The projects should be implemented in collaboration with mass media.
Activities within the project can be the following (but not limited to the list): publications, talk-show, TV debates, social advertising in media, public events (performances, shows, exhibitions, photo exhibitions, etc.), publication of materials (posters, advertising products).
By all priorities preference will be given to partnership projects implemented by women’s civil society organizations from different regions of one country, which mutually supplement each other to achieve more significant complex results, particularly aimed at developing and implementing state policy on ensuring gender equality at both national and local level.
