In the situation of economic instability women’s NGOs face limiting in financing, difficulties in raising funds for proper organization’s work, that’s why they have to reduce or stop their activities. But, on the other hand, crisis is a chance for changes. We are sure that women are a powerful strength able to bring changes and positive in their communities, that’ why we encourage you to participate in the announced competition.
The competition’s goal is to promote the activities of women’s organizations of Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus directed at development and strengthening of women’s organizations from small towns and villages, to promote women’s interests at the level of local communities as well as to enhance women’s participation in decision-making and political life of the country.
Projects by the following priority areas are supported within the competition:
1. Women Change themselves and their Communities
Support will be provided for the projects aimed at promoting activities of women and women’s organizations in the process of solving topical problems of communities (both territory communities – town, village, city district, house, etc. – and by directions of activities). The priority is given to the projects that suggest implementing practical concrete idea aimed at changing the situation in community, influence positively its development. Topics covered by the projects are not limited.
Deadline for submitting projects – April 26, 2010.
Maximum amount of grant requested from the UWF — 5,000 US dollars.
Project period – 4-6 months.
2. Sustainable development of women’s NGOs
Support will be provided for the projects aimed at developing and strengthening women’s organizations from small towns and villages as well as newly-created women’s organizations, improving their professional level and giving them opportunity for self-improvement.
Submitted projects should necessarily contain the Plan of organization’s development, which supposes educational programs, establishing collaboration with an experienced (mentor) women’s organization to acquire practical experience, exchange of experience between organization in the country, etc.
We invite to participate women’s organizations from regions, rural area.
Deadline for submitting projects – April 26, 2010.
Maximum amount of grant requested from the UWF — 2,000 US dollars.
Project period – 6 months.
3. Women in Politics – a Way to Changes
The projects should be directed at promoting women’s participation in social and political life, increasing number of women in legislative and executive bodies of different level, strengthening potential and competence of women working in authorities as well as women who are ready and would like to participate in political life and decision-making. The project can also be aimed at changing public opinion and eliminating stereotypes concerning the role of women in politics.
The project activities can include: advocating and lobbying women’s interests, informational campaigns, educational programs, educational courses, organizing discussion clubs and public events.
Deadline for submitting projects – April 26, 2010.
Maximum amount of grant requested from the UWF — 5,000 US dollars.
Project period – 4-6 months
Preference will be given to projects that have:

clearly defined purpose and a detailed plan of the project realization;
-
realistic, consistent and clear defined expected results of the project realization;
-
influence on development of community the organization works with;
-
thorough budget and realistic term of realization;
-
additional sources of financing.
Please, pay attention that:

the submitted proposal should contain an extract from the organization’s statute (section on Goal, Objectives, and Directions of Activities);
-
projects should be written in Ukrainian of Russian. It is necessary to submit for consideration 7 hard copies of the project (with signatures and seal) and send electronic variant by e-mail to info@uwf.kiev.ua;

faxed or e-mailed projects are not taken to consideration; incomplete projects as well as those submitted after the deadline are not taken to consideration (date of mailing on the envelope should be not later than the deadline, i.e. not later than April 26);

on project registration the applicant receives (personally or by mail) a confirmation with registration number.

Ongoing competition "Grants That Bring Together"
This program was established in order to provide the existing and potential grant-recipients of the Ukrainian Women's Fund (UWF) with a possibility to take part in the activities that promote exchanges and sharing of the experience at the international level. Toward this goal, UWF supports participation of the representatives of the Ukrainian women's NGOs in study tours, conferences, workshops, round tables and other events, thus providing valuable possibilities for networking which is of utter importance for mainstreaming and developing of women's movement in Ukraine and in the world.
Competition Purposes
-
to represent interests of women of Ukraine at the international level, to develop and strengthen Ukrainian NGOs working with the women's and gender issues through their cooperation with the foreign women's organizations;

to support participation of Ukrainian women in the global women's movement;
-
to promote networking of the women's organizations and to involve Ukrainian women in their activities, as well as to assist in sharing of experience and skills between the women's organizations at the international level;
-
to provide possibilities to the Ukrainian activists dealing with the women's rights to be heard and seen at the international level.
Objectives: to secure participation of the representatives of Ukrainian NGOs in the international events (conferences, workshops, study tours etc.) and far-reaching international event on women's and gender issues; to involve Ukrainian women in the international decision-making process; to support cooperation between the Ukrainian and foreign women's organizations.
Participants: representatives of the Ukrainian NGOs working in the sphere of women's and gender issues.
Under this scheme, it is possible to receive financing only once per year.
To take part in the competition, it is necessary to fill in a special application form and to submit it together with the personal invitation, two recommendations and a ticket costs certificate.
Grant financing covers the travel expenditures.
To receive the grant, an applicant should:

demonstrate availability of additional financing;

provide detailed narrative and financial reports upon return;
-
be ready to cooperate with UWF as a consultant/advisor in the spheres related to the event, if needed to disseminate information among the Ukrainian women's organizations.
Applications should be submitted no later than 2 months prior to the trip. Grant decisions are taken by the Expert committee within one month after the application submission.
