1. Grant competition for NGOs working on women’s and gender issues.
 
To the30th anniversary of CEDAW Convention.
 
The competition purpose: assist in activities of womens organizations of Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus aimed at eliminating different forms of discrimination against women and promoting women’s interests.

Within the competition UWF supports projects in the following directions
 
1. Equal opportunities for women and men in political and civil life.
2. Elimination of gender-based discrimination in economic and social life.
3. Elimination of discrimination against women living in rural areas.
4. Equality of women and men before the law.
 
 
Support will be given for implementation of concrete events directed at eliminating discrimination, raising the level of awareness, assisting to understanding and realization of women’s rights, as well as possibilities to protect them.
 
Events within the project can include: advocacy and lobbying campaigns, informational campaigns, publications, monitoring of legislation, conducting educational and consultative programs, etc.
 
 We invite to participate women’s NGOs of Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus, which:

work over two years(registered before December 31,
2005);
-
have previous experience in implementing projects of the chosen priority
.
 
 
Deadline for project submission June 10,2008.
Maximum amount of the grant expected from the UWF USD

2. Конкурс міні-грантів для новостворених жіночих громадських організацій України.

Фінансування конкурсу стало можливим в результаті сбору коштів в рамках благодійної акції “Жінки підтримують жінок”. Гроші, отримані від українських жінок, жіночих організацій протягом року,  були помножені УЖФ та склали загальний фонд конкурсу.

Мета конкурсу: сприяння діяльності новостворенних жіночих організацій України, спрямованої на вирішенні нагальних проблем громад.
 

 

Підтримка надаватиметься проектам, спрямованими на активізацію діяльності жінок і жіночих організацій у вирішенні актуальнихпроблем місцевої громади. Пріоритетними у даному напрямку є проекти, що передбачають втілення у життя практичної, конкретної ідеї з метою змінити ситуацію в громаді, позитивно вплинути на її розвиток. Тематика проектів не обмежується.
 
До участі запрошуються жіночі громадські організації України, що:
- працюють менше 2 років (зареєстровані після 31 грудня 2005 року).
 
 Останній термін подання проектів – 10 червня 2008року.
Максимальний розмір очікуваного від УЖФ гранту — 3,000
грн
.
Термін реалізації проекту
до
6 місяців.
 
Український Жіночий Фонд заохочує не обмежуватись запропонованими видами діяльності по кожному напрямку, а подавати проекти з інноваційними, творчими підходами та новими ідеями в рамках оголошених конкурсів.
  
Перевага надаватиметься проектам, що мають:
  • чітко визначену мету та детально розроблений план реалізації проекту;
  • реальні, послідовні і чітко визначені очікувані результати від реалізації проекту;
  •  вплив на розвиток громади, в якій працює організація;
  •  зважений бюджет та реалістичний термін виконання;
  • додаткові джерела фінансування.

    Просимо звернути увагу:
  • на розгляд необхідно подати оригінал проекту (з підписами і печаткою)та 6 копій проекту;
  •  проекти надіслані факсом та електронною поштою до розгляду не беруться;
  • некомплектні проекти, а також ті, що надійдуть до УЖФ пізніше встановленого терміну, не розглядатимуться (дата відправлення на конверті має бути не пізніше останнього терміну подання проектів, тобто не пізніше 10 червня);
  • УЖФ не несе відповідальності за помилки поштових відділень у випадку не отримання проекту та очікує на проекти, надіслані поштою, не більше 7 календарних днів після останнього терміну подання проектів;
  •  до 25 червня апіканту буде надісланопідтвердження про реєстрацію проекту з реєстраційним номером;
  • остаточне рішення УЖФ щодо проекту перегляду не підлягає;
  • причини відмови у підтримці проекту не повідомляються.

Grants for women’s NGOs of Ukraine,  Moldova and Belarus.
II stage 

Competition purpose: to promote activities of women’s organizations of Ukraine , Moldova and Belarus directed to advocating women’s rights and lobbying their interests.

Projects submitted to the competition should be directed to involving women in active participation in decision-making and implementation of institutional mechanisms for ensuring gender equality at national and local levels; integration of efforts of women’s NGOs for solving problems acute for women at national and local levels; establishing partnership between women’s organizations and governmental authorities. 

The competition has the following directions:

 
1. Sustainable development of women’s NGO.
Support will be given to the projects aimed at development and reinforcement of womens organizations from the regions of  Ukraine , increasing their professional level and providing them opportunity for self-perfection
.
Events within the project can include: educational programs, establishing collaboration, exchange of experience between organizations inside the country, participation in networks and coalitions, etc
.
Competition participants are non-governmental womens organizations from the regions of Ukraine, working for not less than 1 year
.
Deadline for project submission–
  September 20,2006
.
Maximum amount of the grant expected from the UWF—
 USD 2,000
.
The term of project realization–
 up to 12 months. 
  
2. Practices of implementing institutional mechanisms for ensuring gender equality.
Support will be given to the projects directed to implementation and improvement of existing and initiating new institutional mechanisms of ensuring gender equality with the aim to achieve systematic changes at national and local levels
.
Events within the project can include: monitoring of fulfillment of the current legislation on women’s rights, public hearings, advocacy campaigns on women’s human rights, etc. Preference will be given to practically focused projects with clear, realistic and consistent results
.
Competition participants are NGOs of Ukraine and Moldova, which:

- work over 2 years(registered before December31, 2003);
have previous experience in realization of projects on human rights protection and lobbying womens interests, as well as experience in organizing advocacy campaigns
;
collaborate with other organizations and have the experience of cooperation with local authorities.

The term of project realization– 6-8

3. Visualizing issues acute for women and girls.
Support will be given to innovative and creative projects directed to opening and visualization of issues acute for women and girls, with support of mass media, art, culture, literature
.
The project events can include: publications, visual activities(plays, performances, exhibitions, photo shows, etc), printing materials (posters, advertisement products) etc
.
Competition participants are women’s NGOs of  Ukraine ,  Moldova and Belarus .

Deadline for project submission– September 20, 2006.
Maximum amount of the grant expected from the UWF— USD
5,000
The term of project realization– 4-6 months.

The Ukrainian Womens Fund encourages not to be limited by proposed activities on each direction, and submit projects with innovative, creative approaches and new ideas within the priorities.

Preference will be given to projects that have:
• 
clearly defined purpose and a detailed plan of the project realization;
• 
realistic, consistent and clear defined expected results of the project realization;

influence on development of community the organization works with.
• 
thorough budget and realistic term of realization
;
• 
additional sources of financing.

Deadline for submitting II stage competition projects September 20, 2006. The results will be announced in written not later than October 30, 2006.

  • projects should be written in Ukrainian of Russian.
    it is necessary to submit 7 copies of the project for consideration(with signatures and seal).
  • faxed or e-mailed projects are not taken to consideration.
    incomplete projects as well as those submitted after the deadline are not taken to consideration
  • date of mailing on the envelope should be not later than the deadline, i.e. not later than September 20;
  • on project registration the applicant receives(personally or by mail) a confirmation with registration number.

Program "First step to success"

A consortium of NGOs – the Ukrainian Women’s Fund, the Center for Ukrainian Reform Education (CURE), “Help Us Help the Children --Ukraine”, the Ukrainian Children’s Aid and Relief Effort -- (UCARE) and the Women’s Health and Family Planning Foundation – are launching a campaign to promote leadership skills among Ukrainian girls to help them learn about social activism and to inspire them to become engaged participants in Ukraine’s social sphere.

The three- stage campaign will run from March through December 2006.  It will include 50 young woman leaders (girls ages 16-22) selected on a competitive basis from all regions of Ukraine.

The chosen participants will be able to:
  • Spend 2 wonderful days in Kyiv, June 10-11, and get acquainted with woman leaders, who play an important role in the cultural, political, social and business life of Ukraine
  • Receive mentor advice from women leaders concerning their professional careers
  • Take part in training and professional education programs
  • Receive start-up grants to create their own NGOs
  • Realize own leadership projects and ideas
  • Become heroes of a documentary about a new generation of Ukrainian female leaders
To become a participant in this “First Steps to Success” program, it is necessary to:

1. Write and send an essay on the topic:  “I am a future leader”.
The essay should be 1,000-1,200 words in length in Ukrainian (2-3 pages of text using 12 pt. font) and a cover page that includes name, age, place of study, full contact information with phone and e-mail).
The following questions should be addressed in the essay:
  • What qualities should a woman leader have?
  • Why is women’s leadership important for our country?
  • What changes should be made by women leaders in Ukraine?
  • What benefits can society receive from the equal status of men and women?
  • What should be done to have more women leaders?
An important aspect of the essay will be reflections of the author’s personal attitude and her own vision of the issues.

2. Enclose visual materials that reflect her idea of a woman leader (photo, drawing, painting others).

All the works must be received by May 15, 2006 by the Ukrainian Women’s Fund, 79 Artema St.,   Office 38, Kyiv 04050. Works, sent later and those not meeting the competition requirements, will not be considered.

All contestants will be notified in writing by May 30.

Competition "Grants That Bring Together " 

This program was established in order to provide the existing and potential grant-recipients of the Ukrainian Women's Fund (UWF) with a possibility to take part in the activities that promote exchanges and sharing of the experience at the international level. Toward this goal, UWF supports participation of the representatives of the Ukrainian women's NGOs in study tours, conferences, workshops, round tables and other events, thus providing valuable possibilities for networking which is of utter importance for mainstreaming and developing of women's movement in Ukraine and in the world.

Competition Purposes:

  • to represent interests of women of Ukraine at the international level, to develop and strengthen Ukrainian NGOs working with the women's and gender issues through their cooperation with the foreign women's organizations;
  • to support participation of Ukrainian women in the global women's movement;
  • to promote networking of the women's organizations and to involve Ukrainian women in their activities, as well as to assist in sharing of experience and skills between the women's organizations at the international level
  • to provide possibilities to the Ukrainian activists dealing with the women's rights to be heard and seen at the international level.  
Objectives: to secure participation of the representatives of Ukrainian NGOs in the international events (conferences, workshops, study tours etc.) and far-reaching international event on women's and gender issues; to involve Ukrainian women in the international decision-making process; to support cooperation between the Ukrainian and foreign women's organizations.

Participants: representatives of the Ukrainian NGOs working in the sphere of women's and gender issues.

Under this scheme, it is possible to receive financing only once per year.

To take part in the competition, it is necessary to fill in a special application form and to submit it together with the personal invitation, two recommendations and a ticket costs certificate.

Grant financing covers the travel expenditures.

To receive the grant, an applicant should:

  • demonstrate availability of additional financing;
  • provide detailed narrative and financial reports upon return:
  • be ready to cooperate with UWF as a consultant/advisor in the spheres related to the event, if needed to disseminate information among the Ukrainian women's organizations.

Applications should be submitted no later than 2 months prior to the trip. Grant decisions are taken by the Expert committee within one month after the application submission.

Competition to Carry out Informational and Educational Campaigns on Prevention and Early Diagnostics of Breast Cancer in Kherson Region

!To the attention of the women's public organizations as well as organizations working with women from Kherson region

Ukrainian Women's Fund, Foundation "Women's Health and Family Planning" and Center for Ukrainian Reform Education announce a tender to:

Competition to Carry out Informational and Educational Campaigns on Prevention and Early Diagnostics of Breast Cancer in Kherson Region

The tender is a part of the fundraising, informational and educational program "Beauty for sake of Life" in the framework of which approximately USD 90 000 were collected to purchase modern mammograph and to carry out educational campaigns on early breast cancer diagnostics. By competition, the mammograph has already been handed over to the Kherson regional oncological health center; therefore, we invite Kherson region NGOs to take part in the tender to carry out the corresponding informational and educational campaigns.
 
Campaign Purpose: to raise awareness of Kherson region women of breast cancer and to thus reduce mortality rate among women affected by breast cancer.
 
Campaign Objectives: to widely inform Kherson region women about importance, necessity and possibility of early breast cancer diagnostics using the mammographic equipment; to initiate a dialogue between the state and public sectors on improvement of situation of women affected by breast cancer.
 
Tender Participants: Kherson regional women's NGOs and public organizations, active in the domain of women's issues

The tender application should be a 2-3 page description of goals, strategies, methodology, expected short- and long-term outcomes of the campaign, and should include a detailed budget.

Preferred projects will include:

  • a detailed plan of the campaign.
The deadline to submit the applications is September 15, 2005.
 
The result of the competition will be announced in written by October 15, 2005.

Competition "Being a Leader Is Important"

Competition Purpose: to mainstream activities of young women in the social life of Ukraine; to educate/train future women-leaders, to promote development of the young women's movement wave.

Competition Objectives: to develop leader qualities and skills in girls, to promote their self-improvement and personal growth, to stimulate development of an adequate self-concept and personal goals; to development young women's NGOs

The competition is aimed at girls up to 20 years old.

Competition Participants: Ukrainian women's and youth NGOs or organizations working with young people.

The projects may be aimed at the following:

  • Support of development of the young women's organizations;
  • Trainings;
  • Youth camps
  • Leadership schools on the base of 'equal to equal' methodology;
  • Other innovative approaches and methods.

The projects that will be supported will include the following:

  • Clearly stated purpose and detailed plan of the project implementation;
  • Realistic, consistent and clearly stated expected project results;
  • Justified budget and realistic implementation terms;
  • Additional sources of financing.

Competition "Information Exchange and Dissemination of Best Practices among Women's Organizations of Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus"
 
Competition Purpose: to promote development and strengthening of the women's organizations of Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus, to form information networks of public organizations working in the domain of women's and gender issues.
 
Competition Objectives: to strengthen women's organizations through information exchange and sharing of experience and to join efforts to lobby issues, topical for women, on the local, regional and national levels. 
 
Competition Participants: women's NGOs of Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus.
 
The projects can be submitted both by one organization and jointly by the partner organizations from the different countries.

The Fund will support the projects aimed at the following:

  • Development of the databases of women's organizations of Ukraine (mainly, region-oriented), Moldova and Belarus;
  • Conduct of joint events on topical issues (events covering both very specific issues and a wide range of issues, aimed at solving regional problems);
  • Creation of regional coalitions to lobby topical women's problems;
  • Organization of tutoring courses to provide informational, methodological and consultative support to the newly established organizations;
  • Sharing of best practices in the sphere of lobbying by one organization and implementation of the gained experience by another women's organization;
  • Other initiatives.

The projects that will be supported will include the following:

  • Clearly stated purpose and detailed plan of the project implementation;
  • Realistic, consistent and clearly stated expected project results;
  • Justified budget and realistic implementation terms;
  • Additional sources of financing.

Competition “Expanding Economic Opportunities for Women of Ukraine and Moldova"

Competition Purpose: to create favorable climate for women of Ukraine and Moldova to participate in the economy, to reduce a number of unemployed women in these countries.
 
Competition Objectives: to involve women in entrepreneurship in the spheres which are promising in the given region and to establish new workplaces for women. 
 
Competition Participants: women's NGOs in Ukraine and Moldova that implement complex economic programs, provide informational, advisory and legal assistance to women-entrepreneurs. The projects may be aimed at:
  • Conduct of educational and consultative programs for women that want to open their own businesses taking into consideration the spheres that are of higher priority for the given region;
  • Provision of advisory, informational and legal services for women-entrepreneurs;
  • Opening of new, or optimization of efficiency of the existing, businesses in the given region;
  • Securing of new workplaces for women;
  • Establishment/development of the professional associations;
  • Other activities.

Criteria of selection of the implementing organizations:

  • No less than two years of experience and active NGO activities in carrying out of the economic educational and advisory programs aimed at development of small businesses;
  • Comprehensive approach to the solution of the project objectives;
  • Availability of the infrastructure necessary to carry out educational and advisory programs;
  • Availability, or involvement, of the qualified personnel necessary to carry out trainings and consultations (please add CVs of the trainers);
  • Experience in grant use.

The projects that will be supported will include the following:

  • Clearly stated purpose and detailed plan of the project implementation;
  • Realistic, consistent and clearly stated expected project results;
  • Justified budget and realistic implementation terms;
  • Additional sources of financing.

Maximum size of the grant expected from UWF ― USD 5000.

The project submission deadline ― January 28, 2005.

The results will be announced by March 25, 2005 in writing.

Competition "Development of Women's Organizations in Rural Areas of Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus"

Competition Purpose: to promote a role of women's NGOs in Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus and to create favorable terms for active participation of women in the social life.
 
Competition Objectives: to support activities and institutional development of the regional women's organizations, to increase their professional capacities, and to provide possibilities for their self-improvement. The projects may be aimed at the following:
  • Organization of workshops, trainings, and educational programs for the employees of a given organization;
  • Conduct of events and activities to promote activities of the organization;
  • Development of the organizational strategies and organizational management;
  • Participation in the educational programs;
  • Study of the experience of other organizations;
  • Other initiatives.

The Fund will support practical, focused, specific projects on various themes.

Competition participants: regional women's organizations of Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus or women's organizations from the cities given that their projects will assist the regional organizations in their development.

Preferred projects will:

  • Clearly stated purpose and detailed plan of the project implementation;
  • Include a justified project budget;
  • Realistic, consistent and clearly stated expected project results;
  • Impact the development of the community in which the given organization operates.

Maximum size of the grant expected from UWF ― USD 2500.

The project submission deadline ― January 28, 2005.
